English dual-purpose hop for balanced bitterness and fresh aroma.
Northdown is a cross between Northern Brewer and a German male hop, released in the early 1970s. With alpha acids ranging from 7.5% to 9.5%, it provides moderate bitterness and fresh cedar, pine, and floral notes. Adds depth to Light Ale, Dark Ale, and Lager styles. Also famously used in Guinness.
Best substitutes are Challenger and Northern Brewer.
