Malt is the basic ingredient of beer. It is the result of the germination of a cereal and the subsequent roasting. The cereal is left in water for two days, then it is drained and allowed to germinate for another 4-5 days until it produces the sprout; at this point it is toasted. The malti in grains are of many varieties and each malt has different characteristics like color and taste that determine various styles of beer.
